  • Sport Massage is used for pre-event, post-event or maintenance. Participating in hobbies that require exertion will inevitably come with occasional niggles that can turn into full blown injuries and keep you out of action for months, but stopping the niggles from starting in the first place is equally important. Looking after your body to enable you to continue with your sport is a no-brainer.

Sport Massage is a form of deep tissue work to really get into those muscle fibres and soft tissue, helping to flush out waste products whilst also orientating fibres in the right direction - meaning proper functionality and movement of that muscle. Sport Massage also benefits you highly when used in conjunction with Medical Acupuncture, due to increased blood flow and nerve stimulation.

Alongside massage techniques I will also use compressions, soft tissue release (STR), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching and Passive Stretching to give your body the best chance of recovery.

  • Remedial Massage is a general run over and assessment of the body’s soft tissue well-being - muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues. Techniques are used to determine and treat tightness and restrictions in areas, to maintain known issues and/or assist in pain management. This type of massage can be used within a Sport or Deep Tissue Massage, and can be chatty and lively or relaxing and calming. Either way, your body will reap the benefits of being thoroughly looked after under the surface.

  • Deep Tissue Massage has deliberate pressure designed to ‘get into’ those soft tissue layers under the skin, including the dreaded scar tissue and adhesions which restrict movement and create tightness and tension. Our bodies are designed to have layers upon layers of muscle and soft tissue... and a lot of the time, those deeper layers need attention! Yes, it can be uncomfortable, but deep tissue massage is scientifically proven to improve psychological, physiological and physical well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage has an instant reaction via your nervous system to your brain - the pressure causes a release of chemicals such as endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. These 4 chemicals in particular trigger happiness and drive positive emotions. You will also have waste products (e.g lactic acid and inflammation) flushed out, which reduces pressure in the area and allows for greater movement throughout the muscle.

Deep Tissue Massage is used within Sport Massage or Remedial Massage and can be used to either relax and unwind, or activate and energise.

  • Medical Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into our soft tissue, to stimulate nerves and increase blood flow.

Medical Acupuncture is issued for specific injuries, niggles and chronic pain but also for general unwinding and relaxation - it all depends on where the needles are placed.

Within our bloodstream, we carry everything our body requires - oxygen, vitamins, minerals, hormones... then waste products such as lactic acid and carbon dioxide. Medical Acupuncture increases blood flow to the area, meaning you get an increase of the ‘good stuff’ and then a higher volume of waste taken away.

We are warm blooded beings, therefore with an increase of blood flow we also get an increase of temperature within the area the needles are placed. Heat is a dilater, meaning the blood vessels open to allow a more flowing circulation - reducing tension, decreasing tightness and easing movement.

What to expect

My services vary from chatty and lively Sport Massages, to relaxing and quiet de-stressing massages. I’ll also pop some needles in too if you’d like!

You may need a full body fine-tuning, or have a specific injury and are happy to chat and talk during your treatment. You may want a deep tissue back, neck and shoulders massage and lie quietly relaxing to music. Or you may ask for your legs to be worked through and needles used too. Please be aware that if Medical Acupuncture is required/requested during any treatment, there is no extra charge to do so - acupuncture is an important tool in recovery and maintenance and I’m happy to provide it to you!

Please don’t worry if you aren’t sure what treatment you would like/need! That is exactly why I am here and exactly why we do an assessment prior to treatment. We will find the right treatment for you - and it could very well require a mixture of techniques!
